I've been reading the book of Luke lately. It's been quite a ride. As a teacher, I like the book of Matthew the best, but I'm really appreciating the other synoptics more and more.
From chapter 5:
"Now when He had left speaking, He said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto Him, Master,
we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing:
nevertheless at Thy word I will let down the net."
Have you ever tried and tried and "toiled all the night" and yielded no results? Discouraged at the fact that the thing which used to work so well before doesn't work anymore?
Some
trust in chariots and some in horses, but we
trust in the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7
Not by might, nor by power,
but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 4:6
God's Word is key.
Obedience is key.
Keep those "ears" open (cf post on Hebrew thought re intelligence). He is ever speaking. Sometimes it is preposterous. Sometimes we want to explain, '
God, just in case you didn't know, I've done that before, and it hasn't worked...'
Nevertheless, at Thy word...
Thank God for His promises, His mercifulness, and His steadfast faithfulness to what He has said.
